What gets indexed

Post types

You choose which post types are indexed. Only published, publicly visible content is included: drafts, private and password-protected posts are excluded automatically, as is anything marked noindex by Yoast, Rank Math or SEOPress.

Searchable text vs facets

These are separate, and the distinction matters. Searchable text is what a query matches against. Facets are the structured values people filter by.

By default only the post content is searchable. Custom fields are excluded, because sweeping every field in tends to bury your prose under URLs, IDs and tracking flags. Add the specific fields you want searchable in Settings.

A field can be a filter without being searchable, and vice versa.

Facets

Taxonomies are picked up automatically. Custom fields become facets when you list them in Settings, and they resolve to proper labels and links — so a result can show an author's name and photo rather than a raw ID.

Filters support exact values, date and numeric ranges, and distance from a location.

Keeping the index current

Publishing, editing, unpublishing or deleting content updates the index in the background. You only need a full reindex after changing which post types or fields are included.
